Hi Guys,
I know its somewhat late to write a post-Suni games entry, but "better late than never". I think you might credit this procrastination to (1) the fact that I am still somewhat shell shocked that we lost it; and (2) the feeling of grave injustice, being the better team and losing a trophy we know should belong to us. Notwithstanding these sentiments, I figure it is still good to consolidate what we've learnt from the mini tournament and move on positively.
I don't really wish to talk about individual errors or tactical issues. These are micro matters that we should be keen enough to pick up and mature enough to learn and progress from. Instead, I would like to mention a couple of other "bigger picture" things I personally feel we should pay some attention to.
Firstly, I feel that we need to know how to play weaker teams better. Playing a weaker team takes more skill than one thinks. Sometimes when you play a visibly weaker side, you feel more impatient to score, and more desperate when it doesn't happen. You start losing patience and losing focus; you start making poor decisions and lack the inspiration to find goals. I think this was pretty evident in the second and third games, and it's not the first time that this has surfaced in our game either.
Secondly, I feel that we need more leaders in the team. As much as there can be only one captain and one deputy in every squad, when the game is on going anyone can step up to the plate. Truth be told, neither Junhao not myself were having the best of days. This happens; I have no excuses for my flawed performance, but we are all human after all. As much as leadership is not expected of everyone, it would be really uplifting and helpful if one or more individuals who detect low team morale to speak up and get people going. Even if it means telling people to "slow down the game" or a few rousing words to "wake up", the slightest encouragement could do a world of difference. Even the pre-assigned leaders need encouragement and wake up calls sometimes - when on the pitch don't hesitate to make your presence felt, your opinion heard!
So that's my 2 cents worth, sorry for being long winded. Let's learn to keep our heads and finish off opponents that are cowardly defending deep. Everyone in the team can and should be a leader on the pitch, so widen your eyes, open your mouths and make more noise.
On that note, I welcome all of you to speak up and comment on SUniG 2007 one last time before we put it the matter to rest.
Cheers,
Chris

isaac: i agree. i felt the impatience in the team when the goals are not coming in the 2nd and 3rd game and the lack of encouragement and wake up calls at certain pt in the game where morale is low. i'll take note and try to practise that on the field.
the team is new n plenty of room for improvements let's pick ourselves up from here n move on together as a team!
Nicholas :well we just take it as a lesson learnt, what we really need to do is look ahead! Because one of the main reason is really a significant lack of teamwork and communication of the field itself, and what can that be attributed by is the lack of commitment to trainings, 12-16 pp per training is really not there, and every training we see different people? coach talked about the different combination/tactics he can use in the team but if the team of the different variation has not play together the fluidity will not be there right? So last note would be guys lets just turn up for more trainings make it a 20+ pp affair as much as possible. we have 30 + pp in the squad right? corret me if i am wrong.
wayne " IMHO, the coach played those supposed talented players who seldom come for training. A team w more avg players combined w teamwork will surely reap better result. i hope that those talented players will come to training more often, dun think just because ur good u can come n go as u like, no individual player is bigger than the team. anyway, if there's any criticism, tell the person directly so that they can improve, backstabbing will not benefit any party. thank you."
Guys, i really think we need to show more desire to improve both individually and as a team.
Let's start by turning up for trainings. 13-14 players per training session is really not acceptable. By not coming, you are doing those who are turning up a disservice. To fully maximise everybody's time during a training session, we should have a good number of players turning up.
Let's show that we can do more for the team... ... Come on guys, we need to work hard for the title!

fong xiongkun: wow wayne... that was a really honest comment. i appreciate it... transparency is really the call of the day if we are to be more than just colleagues on the field.
don't be like PAP...
cheers and God Bless
Finally David Lee Jr breaks his silence.. Anyway I apologize for my dismal performance against SMU, been going through a poor patch of form recently but who doesn't right? Hopefully i'll show you the magic my dad passed on to me from his time playing for singapore.. Anyway, as a freshie i would appreciate more encouragement and less critism because critism just doesn't work as well when you don't really know (or haven't had the time to build up respect for) the person scolding you.. I presume i'm not the only one who feels this way so i hope everyone can be a little nicer.. Thanks
EVERYONE SHOULD ATTEND TRAINING!!

ps: n i blasted over e bar today cos e ball bounced, the sun was in my eye, the keeper was too big, the bar seemed lower, my boots were too loose, my shorts were too tight and i was hungry...
fong xiongkun: ya lah jo... and your mind was preoccupied with your tuition on friday right... haha...
david... once again, thank you for your honesty. i really appreciate it. hope everyone can take note of these sentiments in a positive way!
dun worie david...all of the seniors went through the same patch when we were fresshies...the style / pace / tactics were all different from what we have been used to playing (seriusly u can ask any seniors..at one point of time or another..each one of us has felt like we dunnoe how to play soccer animore eventhough we have been playing it for years..its terrible feeling man..but yet all of us made it a point to improve our game and adapt to the changes / new positions asap....i hope none of us will be easily disheartened by anything that the coach / mr chiang or teamates might say...just take it constructively guys and keep having faith in urself....soccer is a fun sport...keep ur heads up keep smiling
just a note: everyone should be open-minded and take comments constructively? hmm not everyone can take it that way can they? haha today's match got 22 pp, whens the last time we had so many..
