*Apologies for late post, was very busy over the weekend
In the closing match of the TIG 2009 soccer segment, NUS held UM to a 1-1 draw to claim victory in the overall standings.
An early attack by UM caught NUS off guard, but poor finishing by the UM forward saw the ball only hit the side netting.
NUS went in search for the lead, and were duly rewarded when Nigel was brought down in the penalty box by a reckless challenge from the UM goalkeeper. Fabian, who had seconds earlier created the penalty when he nodded the ball on for Nigel, slotted home from the spot.
UM almost managed to equalize soon after, as a defensive clearance led to confusion in the NUS penalty box. Poor finishing meant the scoreline stayed at 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw fewer chances than the first. With the game being played at a slower pace, UM looked less and less likely to forge a recovery against NUS.
In the closing stages of the game, NUS failed once more to clear their lines. From outside the box, a UM forward lobbed Aziz to level the scores.
As UM looked to score again, a hard shot from outside the box was brilliantly palmed away by the in-form NUS goalkeeper.
