NIKE Elite Live Training

On the morning of 10th December, 3 of our very own NUS players were invited to join 80 youths the Nike Elite Live Training held at St Patrick’s Secondary School. During the session, the football lovers trialled the Nike CTR360 Maestri football boots and engaged in interactive video-based tips and drills developed by Nike's elite football players and coaches from FC Barcelona.

Led by Abdullah Noor, former national player and youth football coach, the players honed their skills by participating in the Master Control drills, conceived and demonstrated by coaches from FC Barcelona. They also trained with video content provided by players such as Cesc Fabregas and Andrés Iniesta, who demonstrated their signature moves. The highlight of the day was the Cesc Fabregas Challenge, a time trial designed to test a player’s control skills. Our players, namely Cheng “Cristiano Ronaldo” Wei, Vincent “Astroshev” Wong, and Fabian “Giggsy” Tan, performed fast times in the Cesc Fabregas Challenge, each clocking 16 seconds in the gruelling circuit which focuses on dribbling, turning, control and passing.

23-year-old Vincent, who impressed with his fantastic technique in the challenge, has his take on the Nike CTR360 Maestri, “The boots are perfect for midfielders like me as my game revolves around enhanced passing, close control and effective distribution. The Kanga-Lite material makes the boots very comfortable. I’m very sure these boots will bring my game to a higher level”. Fellow teammate, CW 7, whose quick-feet are comparable to real CR 9, reflected on the Cesc Fabregas Challenge, “Though it seems like a simple drill, trust me, it’s not as easy as it seems. It was pretty nerve-wrecking because the clock was ticking and we had to do the drills with speed and accuracy. But I really enjoyed the Challenge because it was a good measure of my agility, speed and technique all-in-one.” Fabian added his views on the event as a whole, “This is a wonderful soccer clinic organized by Nike to bring the young footballers in Singapore together to experience the Barcelona training regime. With training methods from teams like Brazil and Juventus coming up in the next few months, I’m very sure aspiring footballers here are in for a treat!”
